Valve Index Review: Is It The Best VR Headset?

We’re living on the cusp of one of the greatest digital overhauls in history. As we usher in our new virtual reality, companies like Facebook, Google, and Apple, are all pining for consumer adoption in the sector. But one virtual reality device stands alone: the Valve Index.

The Valve Index is a potent, superior VR headset experience. While Oculus remains atop branding popularity polls, the Valve Index truly reigns as the superior technology. With virtual reality porn interest surging, VR headset devices continue to act as centerpiece holiday gift ideas. Read our review of the Valve Index and decide for yourself.

Valve and HTC used to work together on the HTC Vive. But now, Valve is seeking out a more autonomous existence in its Valve Index. The Valve Index now competes with it’s former mutual endeavor. And here’s the thing with that – The Valve Index is really, really, good. Its even awesome.

So what’s good about the Valve Index? And hey, can play porn games on your Valve Index?

Valve Index Dominates Interactiveness

The Valve Index controllers fit snug as bugs in both your hands. The connection between your hands and a virtual reality world feels seamless and fluid on all levels. Valve Index motion tracking is some of the best, if not the best, you’ll ever experience.

Now, Valve Index interactiveness depends highly on base stations. If you use a legacy base station, your play area is 16 feet. The newest base stations offer 33 by 33, but only after you’ve purchased all four.

The Valve Index world runs smooth as vapor rising. There’s no real bumpiness or jarring, your experience emulates real human movements and interactions. Now, if you play a crappy game, you’ll get some crappy results. But so long as you’re playing a top of the line virtual reality game, you’ll flow seamlessly and impressively.

Valve Index visuals provide potent, often mesmerizing, imagery. For a VR headset to competently provide immersiveness, it must dilute or block out all ambient light. The Valve Index does that in spades. VR headsets offer numerour potentials for cracks and crevices, particularly around the eyes and more often, the nose protrusion. But Valve Index tightly seals off most every potential point of ambient light access. So the only light you’ll receive comes from your virtual reality world.

Add on an equally impressive 130 degree fielf of view and you’re state of immersion becomes bold, beautiful, and stunning. To insert some relevance, the HTC Vive Pro 2 offers 120 degree field of view. Most other headsets are sub-100.

Valve Index Allows Steam Gaming Access (Some Porn)

Which VR headset you can use to watch porn or play a porn game on is a bit of a mixed bag. I’ll explain.

Oculus, the most popular VR headset on the market today, is owned by Facebook. Facebook loves to censor content (sometimes for better, other times for worse). But this doesn’t mean you can’t watch porn or play a porn game on Oculus. You can. You can play porn games on Oculus using Firefox Reality. In other words, you can use WebVR, or in-browser streaming porn. Streaming your porn games through a web browser circumvents marketplace censorship.

In stating the above preface, I’m infusing what I’m about to say with fairness.

Valve Index allows gamers access to Steam’s vast library of games. Steam does allow for some porn games, including Dominatrix Simulator.

Now, that’s not to say that Steam isn’t capable of some puritanical censoring, just see their banning of Holodexxx. However, if you’re into using a marketplace to play high-end games, including some virtual reality porn game titles, the Valve Index meets this criteria.

Clearly, Valve Index and Steam fall under the same company umbrella, so there’s no surprise that they work synergistically. Having access to a massive library of games, porn or otherwise, is pretty awesome. That’s what Valve Index gives you.

Sound

valve index review soundIn a virtual reality state, sound matters. There’s nothing to do when it comes to headphones as they come onboard. You can adjust volume, but not really on the fly.

Overall, the sound of Valve Index is excellent and should only add impressive levels of immersiveness to your VR games.

Getting Started With Valve Index

Overall, setting up your Valve Index out of the box isn’t a huge choir. You’ll need to download Steam VR. If you desire mounting your base stations, that’s more of a “how mechanically inclined are you” sort of detail. But overall, you shouldn’t experience much issue at all.

What’s Bad About Valve Index?

Namely, the cost.

Valve Index is a bank breaker if there ever was one. You are looking at $1500+ for a Valve Index, which is twice as much as some competitors. While we love the Valve Index, we aren’t sure its “that” much better than other VR headsets in its class.

You’ll need a powerful PC.

The Valve Index’s 144 Hz refresh rate means your PC needs to offer top-of-the-line processing. You can buy extra base stations to increase field of view, but again, that’s going to cost you.

Its not overly comfortable.

With all that power and technology, the Valve Index struggles to achieve true comfort. In VR headsets, we understand that there is a battle between a headset that fits comfortably and one that ports loads of top technology. The more technology, the more the design strays from comfort. That’s obvious.

I hate to say this, but it is what it is.

Valve Index offers a substantial amount of padding. Your face may feel warm or even hot. As we stated above, Valve Index does a supreme job at blocking out ambient light. But yeah, that means it may fit overly snug and that means less air flow. Combine that with the head of a device loaded with high-end technology, and your face may feel like its in an 80s tanning bed after a while.

In The End

The Valve Index is one of, if not the, top VR headset device on the market. It’s immersive experience rivals and surpasses most of the competition. On the downside, it cost a lot more (almost twice more in some cases) and its comfort level isn’t the greatest.

But you can’t go wrong purchasing Valve Index.
