Grand Theft Auto VI is incoming. And it’s coming in hard and fast. Well… maybe not so fast. And that’s where things could get frustrating for die-hard GTA fans who thought they were finally in the clear after Rockstar officially announced the game.
The optimism? GTA 6 is still slated for a Fall 2025 release. The reality check? Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick isn’t completely ruling out delays.
In an interview, Zelnick told IGN that while everything is still on track, nothing is ever 100% locked down.
“Look, I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally,” he said. “We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I’m fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we’re all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited.”
Not exactly the most reassuring statement, right?
And just to make things even more interesting, Zelnick told Variety that Rockstar is working within a “pretty narrow window” for launch.
The Stakes Are Ridiculously High
We’re talking about the follow-up to the biggest-selling game of all time. GTA V has now sold over 210 million copies—a number that keeps climbing thanks to the endless cycle of new players, GTA Online expansions, and those who just can’t get enough of Los Santos.
GTA VI isn’t just a sequel. It’s an event. A game that will likely shatter records, redefine open-world gaming, and push Rockstar into an entirely new era. And that’s exactly why they won’t rush it.
Rockstar has never been shy about delaying games to make sure they meet their sky-high standards. Red Dead Redemption 2? Delayed. GTA V? Delayed. It’s practically tradition at this point. So if GTA 6 does slip past Fall 2025, no one should be shocked.
What to Expect from GTA 6
If you somehow missed the record-breaking GTA 6 trailer, let’s do a quick rundown of what we know so far:
- Vice City is Back – The neon-soaked, sun-drenched streets of Rockstar’s Miami-inspired paradise return, but this time in a modern setting. Expect a bigger, more dynamic version than ever before.
- A Playable Female Protagonist – For the first time in series history, we’re getting a female lead, Lucia. She’s part of a Bonnie & Clyde-style duo with her partner, Jason.
- Massive Open World Upgrades – The game world is said to be the biggest and most detailed Rockstar has ever created, with evolving in-game social media, more AI-driven NPCs, and a deeper level of interactivity.
- Next-Gen Only – Sorry, PS4 and Xbox One users—this one’s for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only (and PC, eventually). That means Rockstar is going all-in on technical advancements, and it shows.
With everything riding on GTA 6, Rockstar isn’t going to release anything less than perfection—even if that means pushing the release date. So yeah, Fall 2025 is the goal… but as any longtime GTA fan knows, expectations should always come with a grain of patience.
