Ayayo Sans Educational Video Banned By YouTube. So What Does This Mean?

You probably haven’t heard of Ayayo games. At least not until now. And that’s fair. Its an erotic game that was played using the PC-98 in the 1990s. And mostly that game play occurred in Japan. But now YouTube is banning a video related to Ayayo Games most likely confusing it with porn games. Or something like that.

Let’s deep dive.

UPDATE:

Our Porn Games investigative team located what appears the be the same video on YouTube, but under a potentially different username. Not sure how long it may stay there, or if this is YouTube’s correction. Also, we don’t really have an investigative team, but it felt damn cool to write that.

Noelle Aman is considered a video essayist. Yes, that’s a real title. He’s well-known for reserrecting old videos that people may have forgotten existed. This concept made Ayayo Games a perfect candidate for Aman’s video essays.

On June 9th, Aman uploaded his essay on Ayayo Games to YouTube. The video explored the history of Ayayo Games in 1990s Japan.

But YouTube didn’t appreciate Aman’s take and removed the video a month following his upload.

“The Weird, Wonderful, and Influential World of Ayayo-san,” has just over 15k views at the time it was taken down. That’s a decent impact over the course of a mere 30-days. Aman explored censorship and the vast history of not only Ayayo Games, but other erotic endeavors of Japan’s 1990 tech world.

Aman’s take was purely educational in purpose. But alas, YouTube cared little about the purpose and robotically removed the video.

“I filed the appeal when I woke up, and the appeal was rejected in about 5 minutes of sending it,” she told Kotaku. “Their response was the generic ‘it violates our community guidelines’ with no explanation. They also didn’t explain what in the video violated guidelines.”

YouTube, so far, hasn’t replied to any of the Ayayo Games dramas. The appeal awaits a response, or, verdict. It is likely that YouTube’s bot removed the video and that upon further human review, the appeal will be won. But then again, who knows.

YouTube has struggled with implementing rules over explicit content, however, there are lots of porn game reviews on their network. Don’t tell them, though. Other video/gaming networks like Steam also allow adult gaming content.

Clearly, “The Wild, Wonderful, & Influential World of Ayayo-San” isn’t a porn game. One must feel YouTube will see the light here. That said, this is YouTube we’re talking about and they have a tendency to drop ridiculous ban hammers a lot.
