The Meta Quest 3 is one of the most popular Virtual Reality (VR) headsets in the game. With enhanced display and optics, advanced tracking and controllers, and an overall versatile user experience, the Meta Quest 3 is also an economic choice in the market. And now, it may get closer to closing the gap between itself and the costly Apple Vision Pro by snatching yet another feature from it.
The Meta Quest 3 is now taking on the window layout style that Apple Vision Pro is known for.
Instead of just having three 2D apps stuck side by side in fixed positions (like on the current Meta Quest 3 and other Meta headsets), you can now place three windows anywhere you want in your virtual home office, plus have another three docked – giving you a total of six windows to work with.
This beta setting is part of the HorizonOS update for members of the Meta Quest Public Test Channel.
This really means you can move your windows around anywhere on the screen you like. In the typical mode, you get a window, open a new app, and it aligns side by side, left of right. Now you can drag that window up above, in the corner, or in any order you like.
You can watch how it works here.
So why is this a big deal?
It simple: Cost.
The Apple Vision Pro’s insanely high price tag has people feeling pretty left out of the VR market. But the Meta Quest 3 is a long standing economical buy. The more it hijacks Apple Vision Pro features, the more people will feel like they are getting all the same experiences. And moreover, it likely forces Apple to lower their price point. Probably a long ways to go on that price point, though.
