Paramount+ Cans Halo Series after Second Season

The gaming world and Hollywood have been building and fostering a pretty lucrative relationship for over a decade. And while it’s been a relationship with potent synergy on both sides, it doesn’t always work out; case and point, Paramount+ is ditching their Halo series after only a couple of seasons.

“We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work. We wish everyone the best going forward,” Paramount explained.

This decision, of course, leaves Xbox, Amblin TV, and 343 Industries in a pinch. They’ll most certainly see if they can rework a deal with a new network that may offer better support for the series that’s based on a highly popular game.

Pablo Schreiber played the freakishly athletic soldier in the series as the iconic character Master Chief John-117. Other cast members included, Shabana Azmi, Bokeem Woodbine, Natascha McElhone, Jen Taylor, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, and Danny Sapani.

While the series seemed to do well on the outside, there were complaints, particularly from gamers. Some gamers voiced concerns that Master Chief’s voice was a far cry from the deep voice presented in the game. In gaming, character voices are a super impactful part of the experience. Some fans of the game felt the writers took too many liberties and didn’t overall respect the original story. Some people felt the series may have leaned politically, something the game never did.

For writers who are tasked with converting a game into a television series, it can be a complex, stressful endeavor to appease the original fans of the game. That said, many games are successfully converted into popular TV series. Who knows, maybe Halo will find a home on TV somewhere, but it won’t be with Paramount.
