Roblox, so far, has disallowed the addition of adult themes in its metaverse style platform. But it appears that’s all changing according to the source, Bloxy News. The announcement, although somewhat controversial, is exciting a lot of the adult (18+) audience who wants to experience racier content.
For clarity, the gambling content will work through simulation, not utilizing cash or assets. That distinction is pretty important.
The loosening of Roblox rules means that Roblox will no longer be an entirely PG, or G, experience. The update does however benefit a large portion of the current adult-aged Roblox audience and unquestionably allows Roblox to offer enhanced gaming experiences. This is because it allows game developers to create new types of games and level the playing field among competitors. The move benefits creators more than anyone.
But again, the move is stirring the drama pot at a high level. The new update includes a dramatic TOS change that alters age specifications. Parents will still be able to control the account’s restrictions via age settings – for example, “all ages,” or “13+” or “9+.”
Now, here’s the rub: many people believe that a large swath of this content already finds its way on Roblox. Meaning, the change may be more of a shield from liability or expectations. That’s not to say that the change won’t entice a lot more of these adult themed experiences. It’s only to say that the content may have been available on the platform prior. For example, there are games you can search which allow profanity. Moreover, those using voice can, well, skirt the profanity restriction pretty easily. There’s also dating content on the website. Well, we mean dating themes, not experiences. There are games which allow characters to get married.
That’s all broke down here:
Again, the point is that the rule may be set to allow Roblox to better manage adult themed content as opposed to fight it. But all the same, it’s created a stir.
