Maybe you’re frustrated trying to figure out if you can play your oh so beloved Sons of Forest on your new shiny Steam deck. Let’s be real, you’re outright anxious over the matter.
That’s fair.
We’ll begin with what you already know.
Sons of the Forest works superbly on your dope PC. But let’s be honest, that’s true of almost every video game out there. So you’re always best to keep Sons of the Forest running on your fancy PC setup.
But we get.
Sometimes, you want to keep collecting farm materials even when you’re on the go, like a vacation or Thanksgiving dinner (yeah, we said it). In that case, yes, you can play Sons of the Forest on your Steam Deck, but it’s not all roses from there.
For starters, the game feels inefficient in terms of CPU usage. Remember, for a game to work on Steam Deck, the developer needs to convert the game in an optimal way following guidelines. This can lead to Steam labeling the game as optimized for Steam Deck play.
Sons of the Forest may exhaust your Steam Deck’s memory at ties, using nearly 14 gigs of ram during play. The GPU might hit the 1500mhz rate which is about 90% of the whole show.
You may find yourself restarting the game a lot in order to combat the two aforementioned issues.
Even with everything I mentioned above, there are lots of people enjoying Sons of the Forest on Steam Deck, but you’ll need to set up some specific configurations.
The below video by YouTuber MonroeWorld may help you alter your Steam Deck settings in order to get the most our of Sons of Forest.
We started this at around 43 minutes as that’s when Sons of the Forest drops on Steam Deck and the live streamer is able to begin setup and play.
