Blizzard Games Are Finally Coming to Steam: Overwatch 2 Leads the Charge

Change is in the air.

The long-awaited sequel to Overwatch is finally coming to Steam, along with other Blizzard games like Diablo 2: Resurrected and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

That’s hot, folks.

Blizzard has announced it’s bringing some of its games to the platform.

Starting with Overwatch 2 that will debut on Steam on August 10. This equally, and obviously, means that the Overwatch 2 will be compatible with Steam Achievements and your Steam friends list. Bros rejoice, let the Overwatch 2 sharing begin.

You’ll still need to link your Battle.net account, but, the good news is, you don’t need to link it.

According to Kotaku, Blizzard says its “sharing more about potential other games coming to the platform when the time is right.” But the buzz seems to lean heavy towards the aforementioned games in our opening.

The Steam version launches the same days as Overwatch 2’s story missions.

I’m a pretty casual PC player, so this news doesn’t really affect me since I already play Overwatch 2 on console. But I know that PC game launchers are a big deal for some people. Some folks like having all their games, achievements, and friends in one place. And it can be really annoying to have to juggle multiple accounts across different platforms.

I mean, who’s excited to sign up for Bluesky and Threads when they’re already on Twitter? No one, that’s who. The same thing applies to Steam, Battle.net, Epic Games, and all the other PC launchers out there.

I’m glad that Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam, because that’s one less launcher I have to worry about. But I know that some people are still going to be annoyed by having to have all these different launchers. Hopefully, one day, there will be one unified PC game launcher that everyone can use.

These missions will cost $15 to play, and they’re probably the only ones we’ll get in 2023. So if you’re a lore nerd like me, and you’re dying to know why everyone in this game is shooting at each other, here’s a handy guide to all the extended media that’ll fill you in.

There are comics, animated shorts, even a novel. So whether you want to read, watch, or listen, there’s something for everyone. And once you’re caught up, you can jump into the new story missions and see how the story unfolds.
