Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty: Is It Still Good?

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is now a few months old.

How has it aged since we first looked at it?

Did it make up for the original’s poor launch?

We’ll explore that and more.

About Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

The problems and criticisms of the original Cyberpunk 2077 are well documented. While the game eventually recovered through fixing many of the issues, it’s reputations for launches remains scarred. Hence, putting out any new edition of Cyberpunk 2077 has to be rather thoughtful.

Enter Phantom Liberty, an expansion for the original game “Cyberpunk 2077,” developed by CD Projekt Red.

We immediately take note of Idris Elba. He’s the new addition playing Solomon Reed, a NUSA sleeper agent in Dogtown. He’s a central figure in the Phantom Liberty. Elba’s addition continues the Cyberpunk 2077 theme of harboring a load of star power considering Keanu Reeves was in the original. Keanu got so popular as a virtual extension of himself, his fans wanted to have sex with that version of him.

We originally reviewed Phantom Liberty back in September when it was freshly launched.

Has it lived up to standards since?

First, let’s explore the cast of Phantom Liberty.

We spoke about Keanu (he reprises his role) and Idris. But there’s more.

Sasha Grey plays Has, a DJ for a local radio station. Her character expands the world beyond what you see through radio. Her voice is a key character.

Kay Bess plays Rosalind Myers, whose voice acts as the President of the New United States of America.

Mini Chang plays Songbird, a character involved in an assimilation plot.

These actors contribute to the diverse character lineup in Phantom Liberty and help expand the storytelling and overall game experience.

The Story

Phantom Liberty’s story is dynamic and driven by you, the player, with multiple paths and endings. Most of the game is determined by player choices. Phantom Liberty offers complex and engaging narratives that serves to expand the original Cyberpunk 2077.

The story is set in the new district of Dogtown, a lawless, reckless place where “V” continues on as the protaganist.

After V concludes business with Voodoo Boys in Pacifica, the new story begins.

Phantom Liberty is an action role-playing game played in first-person. The expansion introduces a new Relic skill tree, raises the level cap, and adds new weapons, vehicles, and hacks.

Graphics

The graphics hold close to the original’s as we’d expect.

They’re high-quality and immersive and at times, visually exciting. But most of all, they are distinct to the Cyberpunk 2077 theme. Expect vivid colors that make this dystopian setting pop from your screen. A night, the backdrop falls into a gritty, sometimes eerie feel. During the day, you’ll note neon colors.

The details are incredible, not only with the people, but the surrounding structures and overall architecture. It has all the futuristic feels.

Conclusion

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty features a number of new celebrities while carrying onward the dystopian narratives of the original. With potent graphics and a multitude of journeys and endings, Phantom Liberty has so far stood the test of a few months time. Its worth a play.
