When you first heard of OnlyFans, my best guess is, it was in conjunction with porn. That’s because porn accounts are what built one of the world’s most popular websites.
But last week, OnlyFans dramatically announced that it was cutting ties with porn. So naturally, the move sent many famous porn stars into a massive tizzy. Considering that pornstars contributed heavily to OnlyFans’OnlyFans’ stunning growth, it’s not difficult to empathize with the porn folks in this case.
But now, it seems, OnlyFans is contemplating a course reversal. The U.K. content-creator subscription site announced that it would continue to allow adult content.
“Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change,” the company said in a tweet.
“OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators,” the company said.
What’s more interesting is that OnlyFans” says they’ve “suspended” the idea, rather than axed it entirely. Could this be the company’s attempt at garnering even more media attention over the next few weeks? Was the OnlyFans porn ban more of an attempt at free media advertising than it was a reality?
Only the executives at OnlyFans know the answer to that. As it stands, the porn crowd is jubilant over the change. And rightfully so, the OnlyFans subscription model is highly profitable for the porn industry.
In light on #onlyfans staying the same and letting creators keep #explicit content I’m offering a 50% discount ! #subscribe !! pic.twitter.com/VH88vjyzK7

So maybe, just maybe, OnlyFans flirted with the idea to ban porn as a way to garner even more media attention. If so, don’t hate the player; hate the game.
