You Can Now Upload Porn Games on Epic Store (Kind Of)

Epic Store announced a new self-publishing program. But that’s not the fun part of this news. The fun part of this news is that the program allows self-game-publishers to upload porn games.

Wait, what?

While some are calling this move an accident, it doesn’t change the ultimate result. You can now publish games on Epic Store without the help of Epic Store staff. So long as the game runs and doesn’t seem to have technical issues, you shouldn’t have trouble – the caveat being that multi-layer games must work with Steam’s platform.

But here’s where this tale gets weird.

Hateful content, porn, and copyrighted materials, can’t be uploaded.

Say what?

So how do porn games fit into this Epic Store announcement?

Well, follow along and I’ll tell you a tale…

Itch.io is a gaming platform that allows small game creators to upload nearly whatever they want. Their quality standards are much, much lower than some of the bigger platforms.

Because Itch.io is inside of this new self-publishing algorithm, you can technically upload your porn game. Even if rejected, due to Itch.io, it is still there.

I don’t know what the big deal is, Steam now allows sex games in their adult section. Of course, in similar fashion, they aren’t exactly advertising such. But all the same, Steam recently watched as a porn game made way to the top of the sales chart. Mainstream gamers want porn games, that’s as much as obvious.

One thing is certain, mainstream gaming and porn gaming is on a clear path to merge, not exactly collide. Mainstream gaming has a long history of precedents involving adult content in their gaming content. Porn games are simply more upfront regarding what they are. In other words, they are who they say the are.
