Surge in Fallout 76 Players on Steam Linked to Fallout TV Show’s Popularity

Once again, we have working proof that the synergy created between Hollywood studios and gaming is legit. In fact, it’s thriving beyond comprehension. The latest proof is Prime Vide’s Fallout TV show thrusting Fallout games into new stratospheric playing statistics.

By way of the Steam data tracker, SteamDB, we can see that Bethesda’s Fallout game series has accrued significantly more concurrent players. In fact, Fallout 76 has hit a new Steam record at almost 40,000 concurrent players.

Here’s the rub (for those who don’t know): Fallout 76 came out in 2018.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. Some of the pre-Bethesda Fallout games, such as Fallout 2, are ripping it up as well. For example, it’s concurrent peak hit over 1000. The first Fallout game popped 2,300.

That’s incredible.

Of course, all of our information is limited to Steam’s data, we have no idea the effect across the other consoles, such as Xbox and PlayStation, because they don’t relay their stats.

Fallout 4 is now the best selling game on Steam in the revenue department.

The popularity of the Amazon Prime show is undoubtedly pushing the Fallout gaming series into a whole new level of popularity. People are watching the show and then seeking out the games.

Amazon Prime’s Fallout is a new show inspired by the popular Bethesda Softworks game of the same name.

It takes place in a harsh, irradiated wasteland that’s 100 years removed from a nuclear war. The story centers around survivors who spent most of their years living in underground shelters and are finally venturing back out into the world.

The Amazon series does introduce new characters that build on the original gaming series storylines. For example, a young woman named Lucy searches for her missing father. The TV show isn’t an exact adaption, but that hasn’t mattered to gamers who are enjoying the “top of mind” surge in popularity.
