Amazon Just Made Fun of Zuck’s Metaverse and We Love It

Zuckerberg continues to hype the “his” metaverse. But some of his colleagues aren’t having it. In fact, their making fun of him.

The latest “burn book” moment comes from Amazon’s head of devices, David Limp, who was speaking at The Wall Street Journal’s Future of Everything Festival.

Limp believes Facebook is attempting to push people into some sort of distracted, highjacked version of fantasy life. In other words, FB tech, or their version of the metaverse, would serve to push people away from reality.

“I want to try to work on technologies that bring people’s heads up, get them to enjoy the real world about them, make the family a more communal experience,” he said.

Painting Zuck at the anti-family demon certainly does sting given his platform, Facebook, consistently endures a wealth of likely deserved criticism. From elections, to fake news, to addiction, the Facebook experience vision has somewhat imploded.

It should be said, Zuckerberg hardly invented the metaverse as he sometimes loosely implies. But up to now, Zuck’s thrown down $10 billion into the idea. So in some ways, we’d guess he feels it has to work. Though, he metaverse won’t allow porn.

There have been other critics, of course, including Elon Musk who called the metaverse “bullshit.”

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel described the metaverse as still “hypothetical.”

And of course, there have been metaverse dramas, like when a woman alleged she was gang groped in a metaverse experience.

In short, the metaverse is off to an awfully bad start. So for Zuck to continue taking burns over his version of it, he’s probably none-too-thrilled. At least, we’d guess.

Meta’s stock is currently down 26%, if that gives you any idea of corporate America’s lack of faith in the metaverse going forward.

And seriously, Zuck’s just gotten weird.
