BMX XXX Review: A Good Idea That Was Before Its Time

Z-Axis created the infamous BMX XXX, it was eventually published by Acclaim Entertainment and can be played on XBOX, GameCube, and Playstation 2. While it’s a sports based game, it gets some street credit as a porn game due to it’s use of nudity.

BMX XXX Review: What’s It About?

There’s nothing complex when it comes to BMX XXX. As I said in the intro, it’s not a full on porn game, but it tows the line enough for us to create a BMX XXX review, so that should say enough.

In simple terms, gamers create female bikers. You have the option to keep them topless, and suggestively make them strippers. Low and behold, the end result is BMX biker hotties with banging tits flopping about.

The game was originally banned in Australia. Playstation 2 has a troubled relationship with BMX XXX as it censors out the breasts, which are in fact the main calling of the game.

You can see an example of that misery here:

The concept of the game reflects a number of other action games, including Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, where characters run about a town that’s built using half pipes. Everything in the town is urban and scalable.

Players can do tricks off of almost every part of BMX XXX, of course, while tits bounce through the air.

BMX XXX was published in 2002, a good while before mainstream games began making their ascent into the murky waters of porn gamery. For example, today, Subverse is rocking sales all over mainstream gaming platform Steam. BMX XXX wanted to be yesterday’s version of Subverse, but it failed to win over gamers.

BMX XXX reeled in a ton of media prior to it’s release, including The New York Times, but none of that mattered. It flopped anyways. Because, the game sucked (and not in the good wholesome porno way).

The game even used real strippers from New York’s Scores (famous for Howard Stern’s referrences in the past). But even that wasn’t enough to get BMX XXX over the hump. The game ended up selling a dismal 160k copies.

The game’s shoddy graphics, lackluster plot, and transparent attempt at creating a viral experience, doomed BMX XXX from the outset. I mean, there’s even a shitty intro with real BMX bikers and strippers dancing. Its bad. Like, real bad.

Here, see a screencap for yourself…

Many have accused the creators, Acclaim Entertainment, of putting out a shoddy game under a viral marketing campaign featuring nudity. Essentially, critics believe that BMX XXX sucks and that the game leverages nudity controversy as a way to make sales. That said, the game sold poorly, so that play really didn’t work. And the fact is, this just isn’t enough to be a full on porn game, so the porn gamer world never completely took to it.

Nothing great here. But keep in mind, this was 2002 stuff.

In the end, BMX XXX isn’t the “XXX” game experience it tried to be. That said, it hit gaming devices in 2002, so it’s understandable that its attempt may have been a bit before its time. We can’t fault the effort. But we can’t credit the outcome, either.
