Gaming on YouTube? Google Testing New Product

Clearly, there aren’t enough ways for you to waste your precious time. Many of us love to game. Many of us love to YouTube. Well, Google sees the obvious opportunity, apparently.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is working on a new product called, “Playables.”

Playables would allow gamers to play games on YouTube through a streaming platform. Even better, it reportedly will work across mobile and desktop devices. In other words, you’re time will never be safe from gaming or learning how to bake cranberry brownies.

Playables will mirror the former Stadia concept, allowing instant play. With Stadia, you could game within the Chrome browser, or on your Chromecast. We’re unsure if Playables is utilizing Stadia’s tech and being honest, we don’t care. More gaming is all we care about. We’re shallow like that.

Google did pitch Stadia to Peloton nearly a year ago, but that endeavor failed.

“A few years ago, we also launched a consumer gaming service, Stadia. And while Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technology foundation, it hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service,” Stadia’s former GM, Phil Harrison, said.

Utilizing the YouTube platform where Google has amassed millions of viewers and billions of dollars in revenue makes a whole lot of sense to the company. YouTube already offers a cable streaming alternative, music, reels, and of course, video content.

Unless the responsiveness of the gaming network is junk, we’d expect Playables to have an impact in an increasingly ultra-competitive gaming vertical.
