Lance Reddick passed away this week at the age of 60. His passing sent shockwaves throughout Tinseltown and beyond. And although he was best known for his role as Cedrick Daniels in The Wire, Reddick’s death also impacts the gaming community.
Daniels was the voioce of Commander Zavala in Destiny games. He was the vangaurd of Destiny games. Beyond that, Daniels reportedly loved gaming himself.
Reddick’s influence in the gaming community is being reflected this week by a gathering of gamers who adored him.
Destiny players have gathered around the tower and are now paying respects to the legendary actor. Only 16 players can hang at the tower at one time. However, hundreds consistently wait to get in and pay respects and salute one of the greats. Titan flags waved abound as many players kneeled behind shields and swords.
His voice over work in Destiny was iconic and impactful. There was truly nothing like it. He took on the role for nearly a decade up to his passing. And he was the only Commander Zavala, never replaced. It was Reddick, every season, the tall powerful voice that was a staple of a wildly popular game.
There won’t be another.
We aren’t sure where Destiny games goes with Zavala given Reddicks passing. Its unimagineable that they move to replace him. Maybe the character finds its way to the next otherworldly place?
